Once you've got another email address(however you do it), then you'll need to tell gmail to send from it. Go to Settings %26gt; Account %26gt; Send mail as and set it there.
If you want your own custom name, you'll probably have to pay a domain hosting company for it. It's possible that the example cited above may give you a free domain name, but I haven't tried it.
