Gmail is an online email service by Google, and its main attractions are no banner advertisements and the huge amount of storage space for email they give you: 2700 MB as of January 28 2005. However, it's still in the beta stage of development (that is, not available to the general public yet), and this means you need to be invited in order to get an account at the moment.
Steps
Since the release of Google Talk, the new Google IM client, Gmail is now open to anyone without the need for an invitation in the US. The catch is, Google will send you the access code to your mobile phone. They do this as a verification process and to reduce spam. If you don't have a mobile phone, proceed to step #4.
If you do have a mobile phone, sign up for an account here. Or you can just send an e-mail to the.llama.llover@gmail.com and he will send youa free invite within 3 days.
Enter your cell phone number and then a code. There will be a link that says, "If you already had a code sent to your cell phone, click here." (You might even find it helpful to click on that link before you enter the things on the previous page, as it has FAQs.) When you get your text message, click there and you will be told to enter your cell number again and to enter the code that you have received on your phone. Now, you have a Gmail account!
Ask a friend or relative or, if you know any, ask a Google employee or other Gmail user for an invitation to Gmail.
Visit http://www.bytetest.com which has given away thousands of free Gmail invitations donated by Gmail users. Bytetest was down, but it is up again. Another good source is the Gmail Invite thread on FatWallet You can also try the discussion page for this article.
If you are a member of a tech-related board, try posting there if you are not new to the site.

There is a way. I've done it myself. Here's how to do it:

yahoo sucks like that. they make you PAY for POP3 forwarding when most other email providers let you use it for free.
Reply:MSN should work with the proper POP settings. I believe Yahoo only does this to Gmail if you pay for it, not the free account.

you need to check your settings. Your account may have some code written into to it while you were surfing the web. Check your "filters" tab for anything strange. Then make sure not to surf the web while logged into gmail. I think they fixed the issue, but it probably the best safegaurd in my opinion.

Reply:I had the same exact problem when I used Internet Explorer with Gmail. First try clearing out your cookies and temporary internet files you can do this by going to the "Tools" dropdown and select "Internet Options" the "General" tab comes up first and you can clean out the cookies and temp internet files.
If that doesn't work (and even if it does) my suggestion is to load the Mozilla Firefox browser www.mozilla.com. This is by far the best thing I've done to eliminate the frustrating pop-ups, enhanced security, reduce computer resources when using Mozilla Firefox browser, no browser freezes, and finally the best reason which you are going to love is that it is soo much faster than browsing with Internet Explorer.
Trust me, my brother who is a programmer told me it's the best and to use it but for over a year I was stubborn about it, then I finally did and I was amazed at how much more efficient it was. Best of all the Mozilla Firefox browser is 100% free!
Finally, if you already use Mozilla, then do a system restore to a point when you remember your gmail account working...that should do the trick as well.

1) Open your gmail account.
2) Click on the 'settings' link on the top right (next to where your gmail address is displayed)

4) In the forwarding section select the forward a copy of incoming mail to..." option. Fillout your yahoo mail id in the box next to it and choose what you want to do with the mail in gmail from the dropbox.

I am concerned with matters of security. I am almost certain that someone or some persons are regularly logging into my gmail account and I would like to trace their IPs. I guessed, from a logical point of view, that the services of gmail and yahoo must have a way to record the IPs signing in and that is the information I would like to access.

I have a Gmail account and I'd like to be able to pop from my yahoo mail account to check it. I've set it up but I keep getting an error and the error doesn't tell me what was wrong. Gmail requires authentication and TLS which as far as I can tell the yahoo side does not support.

someone created a gmail account from my computer and used false info., and then emailed someone to alert them of an affair someone was having. i know gmail does not show ip address, but if served w/ a ct., order how easy is it to retrieve the ip address. Obviously I was not aware of these things going on, and since, the computer has been reset; reformatted and all passwords redone.

I suggest using the "Report Spam" button on any messages you think are spam. Not only will Gmail report those senders, it will also block them from sending email to you, and put their email in the "Spam" folder.

Click Edit labels at the bottom of the Labels box.
Click rename next to the label you want to edit.
Enter the new label name, and click OK.
All the messages categorized under your old label name will now be categorized under your new label.
To delete a label:
Click Edit labels at the bottom of the Labels box.
Click remove label next to the label you want to delete.
Confirm that you'd like to remove the label by clicking OK.
* Removing a label doesn't delete the messages previously categorized with that label.

In GMail, click on "contacts" and then towards the bottom of the page, click "import". You then you have to browse your computer for a CSV file....which is your AOL email contact list. It should be under program files - AOL.
There may be a quicker, easier way to do it. Im not sure how though.

I am using Office 2003 and Outlook. (on Windows XP Home) I want to use my Gmail account as my main account because I can send auto-replies from it, which I can't do with Outlook (unless I have an exchange network, which I don't have). But a lot of people don't yet have my Gmail address. Is there any way I can POP or copy my Outlook mail to Gmail?

Does Google history appear on any computer that I log onto since it goes by my gmail account?
I was told that in order to retain anything I type into google I would have to have a gmail account from Google. When i log onto any computer and sign into my google account can I access any of my previous search history?? If so how do I delete the history for that??

No there is no history that goes along with your email. Like, if you go to the library and get into your email, look at the history. The computer has no idea where you've been. Always log out of your email when you're leaving and clear the history if you want privacy. No, unfortunately I tried. You can forward G-mail to Yahoo though. It's because Yahoo only allows that feature if you get the premium or whatever it's called. Basically you have to pay for it.

Different things seem to work for different people. It's causing attachments to not show, 999 errors where it won't let you do a particular action and some people cannot send receive delete or move mail. That is strange if you are typing in the address correctly. Make sure you checked that the address is correct. Usually they only bounce back for that reason or if the email address does not exist. If you are sending to more than one address at a time, make sure you have a comma in between each. have you tried many different addresses and they all bounce back? You may need find help at gmail then.

Yes ! Create a filter from the Filter tab in Settings. Now fill in the From form with the email you want to block. Now click Next and you would probably in your case just check of Delete it check box. Now you won't see any more of those emails from that email address.

You could also try setting up a pop account in gmail, but I don't know if it does that or not.

Under recent "activity information" it shows that around the time the email was sent, my "access type" was both a POP3 and also a SMTP. It usually is listed as Browser

All I can recommend is that you change your email password and go under settings or forward and disable email forwarding.
Also, whenever you leave your computer, turn it off of put on the screensaver and make sure it has a password.
Don't type your password in when others are looking.
