There's a simple solution that Google offers as a means of deleting your Gmail account:

Reply:Ummm....Just don't use it anymore. Tell everyone your new email account and forget about that one. When everyone knows your new email account there would be no need to log into it.





The only reason to actually delete an email account is to enable a bounce back to the sender saying this email no longer exists. Google doesn't send bounces. Too much resources to simply tell someone the email does not exist. Could you imagine how many emails would be sent to spammers if they did do this. A spammer could try every combination of every letter in every sequence and send it to gmail to phish for valid email addresses. Gmail would take a big hit to performance, so they don't even bother.





I was employed at Google for about 4 years and they don't even do it when an employee leaves the company.





Just tell everyone your new email addy and forget about the gmail one.
